My Gap: My back-pack style isn't cool at all - and I lose things in it. It doesn't help organize things, and causes worry, of stashing valuables in the same space as snacks or a beverage.
refined Gap, week 2
Carrying a disorganized pack is inconvenient, causes worry about valuables, and it's hard to get around easily when hands are full of other things.
SENSING THE GAP - Week 1 - Oct 26, 2013
Admittedly lots of times a backpack is the only thing that works, a purse doesn't cut it. But, it should have organization, and it has to have style; mine doesn't have either one.
I personally am unorganized and want the backpack to be organized for me. People I work with and the little kids we help face the same challenge in some ways.
Filling the gap
Within 8 weeks I hope to refine and construct - a great new, cool, backpack, with no worries about dropping in a snack and water bottle, maybe a laptop? hat and gloves? (and even shoes if I want) and still not lose my phone, wallet, sketchbook in it.

Reflections - Week 2 - Nov 3, 2013
The Gap - defining the problem - A 'bag' was the original solution; for now, it's not limited to a "bag" - freeing up the design process - using needs-based ideas. I'd say "artifact" instead of bag, now that I redefined the problem (in blog post 2.1.)
Refinement of the problem statement - "The problem of carrying a disorganized utility backpack would be resolved, in creating a way to carry and organize lots of things with just one stylish accessory bag which is convenient to carry and protects valuables. " (in blog post 2.2 part 1)
Interviewing for user needs - I think, individuals who share the ‘gap’ don't all share similar lifestyles, so a big range of customers did create some needs which clash with one another. Realizing that not all these user needs will be met through the final design, that liberates creativity (I hope) and am looking ahead to see, how will it evolve.
So if some unexpected features become part of this artifact - the idea of 'latent' needs -!- it makes the process more interesting. (in blog post 2.2 part 2, 3)
